Most mica drying hair heating elements use high-resistivity coils and are heated rapidly by current. The fan usually blows ambient air through the hot coil to produce effectively dry hot air. The heating element in most blowers is bare coiled nickel-chromium alloy wire wrapped around an insulated mica heating plate. Nickel-chromium alloy wire is used for heating elements because it has two excellent characteristics: it is a poor electrical conductor and does not oxidize when heat.
